Scarce Great War Trio of Medals to the Civil Hospital Reserve
Scarce Great War Trio of Medals to the Civil Hospital Reserve, consisting 1914 Star “MISS N.R. BASSETT CIV:HOSP:RES”, British War medal and Victory medal “SISTER N.R. BASSETT” (Victory medal is 1st type with dull bronze finish). Also includes a silver cape badge of the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve. At the outbreak of the Great War Nellie Reekes Bassett was serving as a Nurse at Northampton General Hospital and was a member of the Civil Hospital Reserve. On 10th August she signed her acceptance form for the conditions of service at home or abroad for members of the QAIMNSR. Less than a week later she entered France on 16th August 1914 and was posted to No.8 General Hospital at Le Havre. She stayed at the hospital until January 1916 when she was herself admitted as a patient suffering from anaemia and general debility. Returning to the UK she was eventually confirmed fit for overseas service in May 1917 and travelled to France to serve at No.2 General Hospital at Le Havre. In January 1918 she was readmitted as a patient to No.12 Stational Hospital at St. Pol returning to the UK In April 1918. In November 1918 Nellie Bassett applied for release and demobilisation.
