WW2 Royal Navy Medal Grouping of HMS Auckland Interest
WW2 Royal Navy Medal Grouping of HMS Auckland Interest, group consists of 1939-45 star, Atlantic Star with bar France & Germany, Africa star, Defence medal and 1939-45 War medal. All un-named as issued. Mounted for wear. Accompanied by a quantity of photographs and document from the Africa Station for HMS Auckland awarded to Able Seaman A Neale. On 24 June 1941 HMS Auckland was in company with Australian sloop HMAS Parramatta, escorting the oiler Pass of Balmaha to Tobruk. In the evening of 24 June they were attacked by Axis aircraft. Auckland was hit several times and wrecked; her crew abandoned ship and she sank. Most of her crew, 162 men, were saved by Parramatta.
