First World War Gallipoli Letters, Frank Stuart Shoosmith ( Lieut. 5th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment) Transcribed letters to his family from Gallipoli 1915 in original contemporary "Memorial" Notebook. Some very interesting detail including his work as Machine Gun Officer and his personal impressions of being in action. Also transcriptions of letters from his Commanding Officer Colonel Edgar Brighten and fellow Officers R.Clark and John Hill. These describe in great detail his work in supporting an attack a few days before his death. His death is also described, shot through the head while moving along a trench and his place of burial near a dugout and a service carried out by the Doctor. Particularly poignant is the copy of the letter he wrote in the event of his death " Of course take care of Ivy help her to forget me" c.56pp of letters, one 7pp long in addition a photograph of "Stu" formed in the centre of a watchstrap, probably enamelled believed to have been kept by his mother in memory of her son. Note Lieut. Shoosmith was only 21 when he was killed and since his grave was never located he is remembered on the Helles Memorial Includes research including copy photograph of him in uniform (2 items), Categories: Documents & Autographs
