A very rare and early wax figure of a 17th century Country Gentleman, probably 1820s,
A very rare and early wax figure of a 17th century Country Gentleman, probably 1820s, the finely sculptured head with painted eyes and mouth, short brown hair on a soft body with wax lower arms with finely moulded hands, carved wooden lower legs with painted green stocking and boots, wearing yellow silk coat with cloth buttons and individually stitched button holes, cream and red striped shirt with blue glass buttons and lace collar, brown brocade breeches and tall black felt hat, holding walking stick and wicker basket with bird, mounted on a wooden base with ball feet, (condition: lacks one finger, one thumb and a blue glass shirt button), 10” (25cm) tall including base, together with a wooden glass case. Note: The quality of wax, moulding and base have many similarities with the Ecclesiastical figures made in the first half of the 19th century, 50 figures that represent the outfits worn by Catholic religious orders, many of these figures are in the V&A collection.
