Historically Interesting WW1 Turkish Rifle Muzzle Cap Taken as a Souvenir from Rhodendrum Spur, Gallipoli 8th August 1915, the brass cap with Turkish / Arabic markings to the front has been mounted into a period wooden and glazed frame and mounted with a typical period bakelite label which reads, “TURKISH MACHINE GUN CAP CAPTURED BY LIEUT. A. MAC BROSNAN RHODENDRUM SPUR, GALLIPOLI 8TH AUG 1915”. The frame with stand fitted into the reverse. Measures 15 ½ x 20 ½ cms. At the start of the second offensive on Gallipoli, at Sulva Bay, an attack was made by British and ANZAC troops to capture Chunuk Bair peak. The approach was made up Rhododendron Spur. Although the attackers gained a foothold they were eventually driven off by a vastly reinforced Turkish / German force. Categories: Accoutrements & Equipment
