Great War Battle of Messines Killed in Action 10th London Regiment Officers Medal Pair, consisting of British War and Victory medals awarded to “2 LIEUT A W WALLIS”. Medals remain in good condition. 2nd Lieutenant Alleyne Westaby Wallis was born in London on 25th April 1896. His father was a Police Sergeant serving with the Metropolitan Police. He was educated at St Dunstan’s College, Catford, South London. His headmaster gave him a character reference when he was being considered for a commission in 1915. Alleyne originally enlisted in the Honourable Artillery Company in January 1915, he served as a driver in this regiment, remaining in the UK. He secured a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant on 18th January 1916 in the 10th London Regiment. He was sent to the Western Front in October 1916. 2nd Lieutenant Wallis was killed in action, whilst being attached to the 21st London regiment on 7th June 1917. He is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate memorial. He was killed in action during the battle of Messines. Categories: Medals
