A WW2 Pathfinder Force Distinguished Flying Cross to a Recipient Who Was Killed in Action During a Bombing Raid on Konigsberg in August 1944, Distinguished Flying Cross GVIR, 1st typed, reverse dated 1944, 1939-45 Star Medal, Air Crew Europe Star Medal, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-45, the first in titled Royal Mint Case of issue, all medals unnamed as issued. Accompanied by some original ephemera, Pathfinder Force pin back badge, Invite letter to Mrs. K. D. Frew for an investiture at Buckingham Palace for the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross conferred on her husband Flight Lieutenant William E Frew, dated 25th September 1946, Letter from The Commonwealth War Graves Commission dated 21st September 1961 to Mrs. K Newton relating to a photograph of her former husbands’ grave in Randbol churchyard, Denmark, with some old, coloured photographs of the memorial, Order of Service for the dedication of 83 Squadron Memorial Chapel at Coningsby Parish Church on 5th October 1980. Distinguished Flying Cross, London Gazette 18th September 1945 - The KING has been graciously pleased to approve the following awards: — Flight Lieutenants. William Emslie FREW (50286), R.A.F., 83 Sqn., with effect from 25th August 1944 (since deceased) William Emslie Frew was flying with 83 Squadron Path Finder Force and was lost in Lancaster III ‘S’ PB292 during a bombing raid on Konigsberg on the night of 26th August 1944. The Aircraft took off at 20.30 hours with nothing further being heard from it. 174 Lancaster bombers took part in this raid with 4 being lost. William Frew now rests in an identified grave in Randbol Churchyard, Denmark. Categories: Medals
