A Royal Navy Medal Group of 6 to an Engineer Captain Who Served in Both World Wars and was Decorated for his Service in Both Wars, 1914-15 Star Medal, “234318 W.T.A. JORDAN E.R.A.3 R.N.”, British War and Victory medals with Mentioned in Despatches emblem, “ENG. LT. W.T. JORDAN R.N.”, 1939-45 Star Medal, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 with Mentioned in Despatches emblem. Mounted group of miniature medals, OBE, 1st type, Military Division, 1914-15 Star medal, British War and Victory Medals. A similar miniature ribbon bar which also includes the 1935 jubilee and 1937 Coronation ribbons. Lot also includes a collection of original documents, photographs of the recipient, H.M.S. Ramillies Crossing of the Line booklet dated 27th August 1943, H.M.S. Ramillies 1st year record card, 30+ congratulatory letters and telegrams to the recipient relating to his promotion to Engineer Captain and all dated around January 1940. This includes one from Engineering Commander J.W. Renshaw who survived the sinking of H.M.S. Royal Oak, he writes ‘1 am quite recovered from my humid exit from Royal Oak though still am strongly prejudiced against midnight swimming’. Mention in Despatches, Edinburgh Gazette 16th July 1940 - Engineer Captain William Thomas Arthur Jordan, O.B.E., Royal Navy HMS Ramillies. C.B.E. - The KING has been graciously pleased, on the occasion of the Celebration of His Majesty's Birthday, to give orders for the following promotions, and appointments to, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire: — To be Ordinary Commanders of the Military Division of the said Most Excellent Order.— Engineer Captain William Thomas Arthur JORDAN, O.B.E., Royal Navy (Retired). William Thomas Arthur Jordan was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire on 20th January 1890 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on St. Vincent on 18th July 1905 and was commissioned on 2nd April 1916. At present we have been unable to trace his Officers Papers or the Gazette dates for the Great War MID and the award of the OBE (this is confirmed in the Navy List and in the Gazette for his CBE). His CBE was awarded for service with the Home Air Command. He died in St Leonards on Sea on 20th March 1976. Please note his CBE is not included with this lot. Categories: Medals
