Lot 5Important Comprehensive Collection to a Crew Member of the Airship R101 Killed in the Crash of 5th October 1930 at Beauvais, France

Important Comprehensive Collection to a Crew Member of the Airship R101 Killed in the Crash of 5th October 1930 at Beauvais, France
Important Comprehensive Collection to a Crew Member of the Airship R101 Killed in the Crash of 5th October 1930 at Beauvais, France. Fascinating and poignant collection to Arthur Burton, Engineer and crew member of this famous and ill fated Airship. The R101 was the largest Airship in the world at the time extending to over 770 feet in length. Photographs include Arthur in the "Boys Section" of the Royal Flying Corps in 1918, a number of RI0I Officer groups, interior views, services and memorials to the fallen in the accident. The collection was kept by his wife and she can seen at the Communal Memorial in France. Other photographs show Arthur in uniform and the Airship in happier times. A number of R101 memorial cards are included two with a printed dedication To Arthur. Particularly unusual is a delicate memorial folding paper sheet with "The King's Message" and a full list of the Killed and survivors, one of the former listed being Burton. Two very rare cloth badges are also included one being the R101 "Shield" white cloth with green and black stitching. In all some 75 items all in very good condition in a protective Album, from which all the items can be safely removed. An exceptional Collection. Categories: Aviation
