Piece of Battle Damage from the Lowestoft Raid in April 1916, large piece of brassware which has been severely damaged and a small section of shrapnel from a shell head, both mounted to a base with an engraved plaque “LOWESTOFT RAID APRIL 1916”. Three of the four ball feet to the base are present. Sadly no history has been provided about this item or any provenance details etc. The raids by the German naval fleet on the coastal towns of Lowestoft and Yarmouth, the action was meant to knock out the harbours and the naval capabilities in these areas, however the Germans did destroy a number of buildings around the area and inflicted casualties on civilians, this proved to be a political disaster for the Germans.
