Lot 3British 1815 Waterloo Medal 4th or Kings Own Regiment of Foot

British 1815 Waterloo Medal 4th or Kings Own Regiment of Foot
British 1815 Waterloo Medal 4th or Kings Own Regiment of Foot, awarded to “THOMAS CHA**** 1ST BATT. 4TH REG. FOOT.”, fitted with steel clip and ring. Heavy contact to a section of the medal rim making part of the naming illegible. Metal buckle fitted to ribbon. Thomas Chambers is confirmed on the nominal roll of Waterloo men for the 1st Battalion 4th Foot, serving in Captain Wilsons Company. The 4th Regiment of Foot had recently returned from North America having been defeated at the Battle of New Orleans and they found themselves part of General Lamberts Brigade which was being held in reserve when the battle commenced. At 6pm the Brigade was called to the front line and positioned to the Northeast of La Haie Sainte farmhouse which by this point was under French control. The Brigade took heavy casualties from French artillery with the 4th suffering 12 killed and 122 wounded. The Regiment remained in France as part of the Army of Occupation and did not leave until 1818. Categories: Medals
